Mycobacteriaceae

The family of Mycobacteriaceae contains the single genus Mycobacterium with over 150 species. They are broadly distributed in various natural environments, and with several notable exceptions, they do not appear in parasitic or disease associations. This genus also includes Mycobacerium tuberculosis, currently responsible for serious bacterial infections of humans in many parts of the world, with millions of deaths annually. Other Mycobacterium species can cause a variety of infections as well; for example, worldwide, there are over quarter million new cases of leprosy, a debilitating disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae. A number of mycobacterial saprophytes have been shown to cause opportunistic infections in immunocompromised individuals, and many are pathogens of animals.

Short presentation about congenital heart diseases, fetal circulation, transitorial, neonatal, normal pediatric circulation. Symptoms of congenital heart diseases are persistent unexplained central cyanosis or desaturation – even if mild initially, desaturation or cyanosis that does not improve with oxygen or ventilation, a significant persistent difference in upper and lower limb saturations, congestive heart failure (newborn, infants),cyanosis, cardiomegaly, poor growth, arrythmias, murmurs, respiratory syndrome, bronchitis. This short presentation also includes diagnosis and treatment of congenital heart diseases.

Anemias in children

Anaemia is an abnormal low hemoglobin, hematocrit or RBC count, lower than the age-adjusted reference range for healthy children. Anaemia can by coused by impaired red cell formation (deficiency, bone marrow failure and dyshematopoietic anemia), blood loss and hemolytic anemia. This presentation gives an overview of differential diagnosis and treatment of anemia in children.

Bisphosphonate osteonecrosis

Osteonecrosis of the jaw is a rare, but very severe complication in patients receiving bisphosphonate therapy. This complication significantly restricts food intake and reduces their quality of life. The negative influence of bisphosphonates on jaw bones is still not precisely known and is the subject of research.
